Don't hide an important part of you! :)
Assimilation, an act I don't really like. Assimilation is the act of changing aspects of one’s identity, including cultural identity, to fit societal standards. Students may assimilate because of bullying, judging of others, students wanting to fit in, and/or mean comments but no one should ever shame you for where you are from, what you eat, cultural clothing, your skin color, etc. You shouldn't change yourself because of your surroundings/what you see because culture is a beautiful thing. Culture is part of what makes you ...you. We should learn to love everyone and embrace our cultures. Diversity could, for example, inspire you to cook a traditional dish of another culture...and end up loving it. Diversity can give you new ideas!
Students sometimes may think being different isn't the best, but it's ok to stand out! πYou can try to combat assimilation by learning more about your culture,
asking your family about it, and just embracing it. I will admit myself...sometimes I assimilate but I'm starting to learn that its not the best thing to do all the time. Love yourself for who you and your family are.
